A Contemporary Vietnamese Cuisine @ Aquaknox

March 8, 2012 – Hidden in the corner of Barangay San Lorenzo is a Vietnamese Kitchen called Aquaknox. It started with an aquatic theme but decided to go for some alterations. Inside is a very unique, quiet and relaxing ambiance filled with marks of Vietnamese culture.

As I sit on my side of the table, I saw the place mat woven from "banig".  Cute!

While waiting for the others, we were served with refreshments and snacks. Kind of like the fish chips.

The food

Goi Cuon

Fresh spring rolls with shrimps, pork, lettuce and noodles. The greens consist of chime and Vietnamese mint. It has a peanut dip/sauce which tastes like a cocojam. Price: P150

Goi Buoi Voi Tom Nuong

Pomelo salad with grilled shrimps, cabbage, cucumbers, carrots and Asian basic. Paired with a dipping fish sauce called Nuoc Mam. Well, I enjoyed this one. Loved the combination of sauce and the shrimp. The consistency of the fish sauce balanced the bitterness of the veggies and sweetness and tang of pomelo. It's like they are a super team. Price: P185

Hu Tieu or Mi Bo Kho

Hu Tieu is rice noodle while Mi Bo Kho is egg noodles. You can choose whichever you like. We were served with Mi Bo Kho. A beef brisket stew with egg noodles. This is perfect for a night cap. It tastes like "nilagang baka" with ginger. Price: P215 (The image above shows half of its original serving size)

Ca Che Kho Tieu

A succulent catfish simmered in caramelized pepper sauce with green onions and bean sprouts. The best dish I tasted so far. The sauce is similar to asado. Allow me to say, "fish asado" :) The catfish is very and tender and neatly sliced. I finished the dish twice as fast.hahahah :D Price: P285

Cari Ga

Chicken curry with potatoes, carrots and onions. I appreciate the tenderness of the chicken. The curry flavor doesn't dominate the whole dish. If you are into the Filipino version of curry, I guess, you won't appreciate this because it's not spicy enough and doesn't have a coconut milk in it (I guess). Price: P285
