Crabs In Coconut Milk Recipe

One of the many dishes I love to eat is the Crabs In Coconut Milk. Ohh, add some chili and the flavors will just ooze on your palate.  This delectable dish is considered 1 of the Top 5 Filipino dish. The preparation is very simple. Let me give you the ways:

Ingredients:



  • 2lbs stone crabs or any other crabs

  • 400 ml coconut milk

  • 6 Cloves of garlic – peeled and smashed

  • 1 Large onion – thinly sliced

  • ¼ Cup ginger – peeled and julienned or thinly sliced

  • 4 Finger peppers (Siling mahaba)

  • 1 Teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1 Tablespoon patis (fish sauce)

  • 1 Teaspoon MSG – optional

  • 3 Tablespoon cooking oil


How to Cook



  1. Rinse the crabs thoroughly

  2. Heat 3 tablespoons cooking oil in a wok or a large pot

  3. Add garlic and let it cook until golden brown.

  4. Put onions and let it cook until it hits the shiny stage.

  5. Add ginger and allow it to cook for 1 minute.

  6. Add the crabs and place them where they are spaced evenly.

  7. Add coconut milk and spoon some over the crabs covering them thoroughly.

  8. Add black pepper, cover it, bring to a boil, and let it simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes.

  9. After five minutes add fish sauce and agitate the pot carefully, you must do this frequently in order to avoid scorching the coconut milk.

  10. Allow to cook for 5 more minutes.

  11.  Adjust the taste by adding more patis or salt and black pepper if needed.
